Private Health Insurance – Even GPs Don’t Trust NHS

The popularity of private health insurance has soared in recent times as there have been notable drops in the standards of service and increases in the length of waiting lists for those relying on the NHS. According to the report in the Daily Mail, the results of a survey recently carried out amongst GPs discovered a surprising lack of faith in the NHS in favour of having the additional features of private health insurance. The results of the survey showed that of 600 family doctors questioned, just under 30% had decided to take out private health insurance instead of relying on the services of the NHS. In addition to this, a further 10% of GPs stated that they would rely on private treatment if they or a relative were to fall ill.

When looking at the issue of GPs taking out private health insurance, there is a notable disparity between family doctors and those working within NHS hospitals. According to the report in the Daily Mail, family doctors are more likely to take out private health insurance than NHS hospital workers with an average of 22% of family doctors already having private health insurance and a further 33% who would take it out if their required medical treatment.
