Private Health Insurance – GPs Turn Backs on NHS

The poll for Hospital Doctor magazine revealed that already 28% of GPs had private health insurance and health care, with a further 10% saying they would like to take out private health insurance. Although a GP spokesmen denied that the poll results revealed a lack of faith in the NHS, patients have said it clearly reveals a lack of faith in the system.

The lack of faith demonstrated by the preference for private health insurance has prompted some patients to ask questions. A quarter of the doctors questioned had some kind of medical or psychological needs, showing the profession has a need for dedicated health care. Due to the high percentage of doctors saying they'd prefer private health insurance, the poll raised questions from the Patients Association; a spokesman told the Hospital Doctor magazine: “When people involved in helping provide care don't feel comfortable to receive care you start to ask questions. But we also wonder if the NHS as an employer is doing enough to support its staff.”
